Linking technologies are used to connect patrons with online content that is indexed in disparate places in the online library ecosystem, such as Discovery Layer, Google Scholar, A&I databases, and Aggregators offered by various vendors such as EBSCO and ProQuest. This series, led by BLC members, is meant to share user perspectives on these technologies through case studies and implementation experiences, empowering fellow BLC members to make informed purchase decisions in the future.

UConn was tasked with reducing its journal commitments by $2.5M to accommodate a series of recissions. We tackled this challenge in three ways: 1) Partnering with the Provost’s office to implement journal subscription reductions; 2) Using Unsub to determine which subscriptions to maintain based on cost per use; 3) Implementing and socializing Article Galaxy Scholar as an alternative to subscription access for journals from canceled Big Deals.

This presentation will cover UConn’s implementation of AGS to maintain seamless access to important materials and our user community’s experience throughout the journal reduction project.
