BLC and Digital Science sponsor workshops on "Addressing the Emerging Trends in the Research Environment"

On November 21st at the Tufts University Medford campus and November 25th at the campus of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, the BLC and Digital Science hosted a workshop focused on better understanding the research information management landscape.  Speakers included:

  • Jonathan Breeze, CEO of Symplectic, who reflected on the emergence of research information management systems and the resulting benefits they can provide. Jonathan's slides are here.
  •  Kevin Gardner, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Research, University of New Hampshire, who described UNH's decision to implement a research information management system and the lessons learned.  Kevin's slides are here.
  •  Mark Hahnel, CEO of Figshare, whose presentation discussed more specific aspects of the research data management landscape and various approaches to address the growing suite of mandates. Mark's slides are here.
  •  Marilyn Billings, Scholarly Communication and Special Initiatives Librarian, University of Massachusetts, Amherst who described ways in which the library at UMass Amherst has been key in developing services to address research management issues and ways in which they have worked to establish partnerships and strong relationships with faculty and other stakeholders across the university. Marilyn's slides are here.
