The New eScholarship@BC

The Boston College University Libraries is pleased to announce that eScholarship@BC, Boston College's institutional repository, has moved to a new repository platform.

The new platform is built on Islandora, an open-source repository solution allowing more flexibility. The migration took place in Fall 2014, and they have just begun rolling out the new website and services to faculty and administrators on campus. They wanted to take this opportunity to share the news with the BLC community as well.

Here are some of the new features on the site:

  • More user-friendly interface
  • Enhanced search features and faceted browsing (using Solr)
  • Cover pages for each item, to provide context when accessed indirectly
  • Record-view statistics on each item
  • Better Google Scholar indexing to provide more visibility, citations and impact

They have also provided an easy deposit form for users and are in the process of building new workflows to allow for direct deposits through the website.
