Boston, MA – September 25, 2025 – The Boston Library Consortium (BLC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Molly Rainard as our inaugural Program Manager for Licensing and Content, effective October 14.

As our inaugural Program Manager for Licensing and Content, Molly will lead our shared licensing and content portfolio and partner with the Heads of Resource Management (HRM) Committee to pursue innovative consortial agreements and advance a bold, collaborative collections strategy that reflects BLC’s guiding principles in a rapidly evolving scholarly communications landscape.

Molly comes to BLC after nearly a decade at Auraria Library, where she managed licensing and acquisitions on behalf of the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. In this capacity she provided leadership in advocating for better pricing and terms in library e-resources in alignment with library values. As chair of the CU Libraries Electronic Resources Team, she coordinated systemwide licensing strategy across all University of Colorado campuses, aligning priorities, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and improving licensing workflows. She also co-leads the SPARC Privacy & Surveillance Contract Language Working Group, focused on better understanding contract terms related to privacy and supporting negotiations to strengthen privacy protections.

"Molly’s strong commitment to licensing values will be a tremendous asset to BLC, enabling us to expand our capacity and infrastructure in support of our strategic priorities," said Charlie Barlow, BLC’s executive director. "Her leadership will enhance our shared licensing and content efforts across all member institutions."

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to join BLC, and I look forward to contributing to such a dynamic, forward-thinking consortium,” said Molly Rainard. “Shared licensing is about advancing our collective commitments to equity, community, and intellectual freedom. I’m excited to partner with BLC’s member institutions to build innovative, values-driven approaches to licensing and content strategy.”

The search was led by a committee chaired by Maridath Wilson (Boston College), with Julie Adamo (Middlebury College), Chris Blackman (Williams College), Michael Fernandez (Boston University), Martha Kelehan (Tufts University), and Sara Pike (UMass Dartmouth).

“We were impressed by Molly’s experience, strategic vision, and values-driven approach to licensing,” said Maridath Wilson. “Her collaborative spirit and commitment to advocacy will help BLC create a licensing program that amplifies the voices of our members and the library community at large.”

Molly holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Denver and a BA in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Colorado Boulder.
