BLC Leadership Academy for Support Staff

BLC Leadership Academy for Support Staff is a professional development retreat empowering library professionals through leadership training, community-building, and wellness. 

In collaboration with the Professional Development Alliance of Library Consortia and with funding provided by the Institute for Museum and Library Services, the Boston Library Consortium is excited to offer the BLC Leadership Academy for Support Staff (BLASS), a dynamic and highly interactive leadership development program designed to empower professionals in the library field through immersive workshops, hands-on activities, and opportunities to network with peers. 

Program Overview

The BLC Leadership Academy for Support Staff is an intensive, high-engagement experience that goes beyond traditional leadership training. Participants will engage in:

  • Workshops – Interactive sessions designed to build leadership skills, foster collaboration, and develop strategic thinking.
  • Hands-On Learning – Real-world applications of leadership principles in library and information settings with detailed case studies.
  • Peer Networking & Wellness Programming – Opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals and mentors as well as time for reflection.

Who is eligible?

This program is open to those who are underrepresented and have been historically excluded in the library and information field who are (1) in supervisory roles, (2) do not possess an MLS degree, and (3) reside in the United States and/or its territories.

Dates: May 17 - 21, 2026

Location: National Public Housing Museum,                             Chicago, Illinois 

BLASS is a three-day, in-person professional development retreat. This retreat will be held from May 17-21, 2026 at the National Public Housing Museum in Chicago, Illinois.
