Licensing
Community of Interest
Community Charge
The Licensing Community of Interest (COI) is a place for all BLC members who participate or are interested in the e-resource licensing process, including license review, redlining, and negotiation. The COI aims to be a space for library workers to learn from their peers on the complicated issues that can arise in this area, from understanding the meaning of common licensing terms, to best practices in negotiating with library e-resource vendors.
Possible topics for exploration include:
-
Discussions on specific terms, such as patron privacy, non-disclosure agreements, interlibrary loan, etc.
-
Differences in approach depending on format (e.g. streaming video vs. database package).
-
Protecting library and educational copyright exceptions when contract law supersedes copyright.
-
Demystifying licensing for newcomers to the profession.
