Community Charge

The BLC Business COI provides a forum for BLC member librarians to discuss issues related to their work in business, economics, and/or entrepreneurship disciplines and to implement best practices and increase professional development and networking opportunities.
COI members focus on library services and collections related to business, economics, and entrepreneurship as well as to adjunct fields such as technology, data analytics, applied mathematics or sciences, or engineering management; they may do so from the viewpoint of collections, resource management, research, reference, instruction, and/or outreach.

A primary initial focus for the COI will include conversations about business-related library collections and library services supporting these disciplines. All BLC member-libraries face the usual constraints of staff, budget, time, and space. Through the Business COI, the members can make thoughtful, long-term decisions within a group context and to seek opportunities for collaboration and cooperative retention.

COI members can also explore opportunities for the preservation of rare and valuable business materials and for accessing components of the elusive grey literature which often are unavailable through interlibrary loan.

The Business COI is interested in pursuing the following initiatives:

  • Best practices in supporting business, economics, & entrepreneurship on campus
  • Collection updates & reports from members on databases and materials supporting business disciplines (e.g. new & canceled business databases)
  • Establish a business or entrepreneurship librarian boot camp (like the Social Science Librarian Boot Camp or New England Science Boot Camp for Librarians)
